Natalie & Kevin – Heritage Park

May 21st was the first wedding of the year for Calgary’s Best Wedding DJ. Natalie is a former coworker and in fact her new husband, Kevin, also used to work in the same company – so being the DJ for this wedding was extra special. Aside from seeing Natalie & Kevin, there were a number of familiar faces in the crowd.

The day started off with the Wedding Ceremony at 6 PM, which was held at the Prince House in Heritage Park. Kevin came down the aisle to “The Wedding Gift” by Rawlins Cross before Natalie made her way down the aisle to “You Take My Breath Away” by Eva Cassidy.

After the ceremony I made my way to the Railway Orientation Center, also at Heritage Park, where I had most of my equipment set up and ready to go for the reception. Natalie & Kevin’s wedding incorporated traditions from each of their family’s backgrounds. Claddagh clad boxes containing the wedding favors were on each table – a nod to Kevin’s Irish heritage – and the Claddagh is also on Natalie’s wedding ring. Inside each box, were Gladiolus bulbs. Natalie’s father is Swiss, and the wedding tradition in Switzerland is to plant something so that it may grow as the couple’s love for one another grows. One thousand paper cranes, as well as origami flowers, rounded out the decorations in the room – Natalie’s mother is Japanese, and in Japan it is said that folding 1000 paper cranes will make ones wishes come true.
